Services Explained

A brief description of dental services offered at our practice

Dental services:

  • Comprehensive dental examinations
  • A comprehensive consultation involves an extensive examination of the oral cavity. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Panoramic radiographic examination
    • Digital intraoral radiographs
    • Evaluation of the oral hard and soft tissues
    • Extraoral evaluation of head and neck tissues and structures (lymph nodes, muscles of mastication, cervical muscles, temporomandibular joints)
    • Digital photography (intraoral & extraoral)
    • Diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Limited dental examinations
    • This focuses on specific dental concerns and problems
    • Requires digital intraoral radiographs for accurate assessment and diagnosis
    • Any required procedure to treat the specific problem
  • Digital Smile Design (DSD)
    • This incorporates clinical findings and diagnoses with digital photographs
    • In this manner, we can digitally design a pleasing smile which will correct many cosmetic concerns (crooked teeth, uneven gum margins, tooth size discrepancies, eliminate gaps)
    • A prototype is then placed over the patient’s existing tooth structure- this can be worn for a few days or weeks and the patient can visualize what their new smile will look like
    • This ensures improved treatment outcomes and expectations

Totally reversible process as no tooth structure is physically prepared or harmed (if a patient is unsatisfied with a proposed smile design, changes can then be made to the prototype with the patient’s input for a more acceptable and pleasing result)

  • Aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry
    • We can restore existing teeth to normal form and function
    • Replace missing teeth to improve overall oral appearance and chewing function
    • Restore worn and crooked teeth with porcelain and ceramic restorations (crowns, veneers)

Replace existing porcelain-metal crowns with exposed dark metal margins

  • Complete oral rehabilitations
    • Patients without any remaining teeth can be rehabilitated to fixed form and function with implant-supported reconstructions
    • Usually done in a team-approach which also includes a surgeon (periodontist, maxillo-facial surgeon), dental laboratory technician, and/or an orthodontist
    • Reconstructing severe tooth wear with full-coverage ceramic restorations
  • Dentures
    • Complete dentures- for patients without any remaining teeth not wanting dental implants
    • Partial dentures- for patients with a few remaining teeth that can support a removable partial denture
    • Implant supported dentures- 2-4 dental implants can help retain a complete denture to improve its stability and patient comfort
  • Implant supported crowns and bridges
    • For single-missing teeth or multiple-missing teeth, dental implants can be placed in the jaw bone and the teeth are replaced with fixed restorations
  • Crowns (caps), veneers, and bridges
    • Full porcelain/ceramic restorations can be permanently cemented onto teeth to help restore missing, broken down, decayed, and unappealing teeth
  • Tooth-coloured fillings and porcelain inlays
    • We offer metal-free solutions for teeth requiring fillings
    • If breakdown is extensive, missing tooth structure can be restored with porcelain inlays and onlays
  • Tooth whitening (dental bleaching)
    • We offer in-office dental bleaching- this involves a single 90-minute session for an immediate whitening effect. It also includes a maintenance kit for use after the procedure is complete.
    • Take-home dental bleaching- this is a DIY approach to tooth whitening. The patient is supplied with bleaching trays and material. This requires the patient to apply the material every day for at least 2-weeks to get a pleasing whitening effect.
  • Root canal treatment
    • For painful and sensitive teeth, we sometimes need to remove the contents of the nerve canals which include blood vessels and nerves
    • By adequately disinfecting and filling the root canal system, the tooth can be maintained and restored to complete function
  • Oral hygiene procedures (maintenance and cleanings)
    • Essential to long-term survival and success of dental implants is their life-long maintenance
    • Patients are advised to regularly attend their maintenance visits whereby a general cleaning and polishing is done (on teeth, gums, implants, and reconstructions)
    • These appointments also allow for early intervention in the event of a complication
  • Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain (including MPDS, headaches)
    • We offer treatment and relief for patients who clench/brux their teeth
    • TMJ disturbances are increasing in occurrence as these are often related to stressful lifestyles
  • Bruxism &/or clenching
    • Often related to TMJ pain
    • Patients may not be aware of their clenching
    • Most often seen in cases of extensive tooth wear
    • We can restore these patient’s dentition to normal appearance and function
